Environmental Awareness, Paint & Publisher

Having to make do really encourages one to be imaginative. For years I've had access to Photoshop/Flash and a myriad of advanced graphics tools and programs. I am currently limited to MS Office! However with Publisher/Paint, an army of geometric shapes and the transparency function you can still put together some reasonable graphic designs.

Hi all...

This is my new shiny home on Blogger. I'm quite surprised with how much I have been able to customise my site, as blogger TBH used to be a bit of a clunky old site creation tool.

Expect to see the best of my old website articles migrate onto this site as well as new ones about whatever is currently sparking off light bulbs in my head. Check out the site banner to see what those sorts of things might include. TTFN.

Nintendo Wii Fitwatch

Thanks to frenkieb & yggg for the original images.

I had to write down this concept and hope that one day the big N has the same idea. I’ve had synergy on mind for a week or so and I’ve really been getting into my Wii Fit. It’s great having a gadget that keeps an eye on you and records some useful basic details about you.

How could Nintendo take this concept further?

Nintendo FitWatch

Nintendo is increasingly using Hardware to sell their software, they typically do something we all take for granted but augment it with excellent, fun software. Now fitness watches/gadgets have been around for years, measuring heart rate, distance and speed etc.

Imagine adding some wireless communication to this device and then every morning when you do your Wii Fit weigh in, it uploads a little more data about you. You may be a little wobbly first thing, but the Watch tells Wii Fit that you did a 10 mile run yesterday. You may be, an ideal weight but your watch has noticed an increased heart rate and Wii Fit can advise you to seek some extra help.

It would be an excellent way of augmenting Wii Fit and would provide some very useful input from your activities away from your Wii.

Online Medical Records

Finally, with a whole host of medical tracking websites (including one by Google) on the way, how better than allowing an option to send your records, to these sites, perhaps to allow more detailed analysis, or just for a more permanent record. I feel this last idea would probably be beyond Nintendo’s desires as a Games company but it is worth a thought.

DSOne Review

In addition to the DSOne Tutorial I posted a few weeks ago I thought I’d add a quick review.

+

  • Uses MicroSDHC (Cheap, massive capacity)
  • Supercard Team support (Regular updates, good attempt at Chinglish on website)
  • Card feels light, but lack of weight makes it pretty tough as it doesn’t have enough mass to damage itself when dropped and like all Slot 1 devices fits flush.
  • Comes with easy to use card reader (also excellent presentation box)
  • Runs most Homebrew straightaway (a myriad of easy to use tick boxes will let you get software working if it doesn’t)
  • Supports download play

-

  • MicroSD cards are tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny!
  • Excessive presentation makes you wonder if they couldn’t have saved a few £££
  • Sparse documentation (if you need help go to http://www.scdev.org/forum/)

Overall

If you want to run Homebrew or other software this is a simple, well put together product that is easy to use.
